Compression Springs

The compression springs in Mollificio Modenese’s catalogue are made from round steel wire for UNI EN 10270-1 SM or SH springs. They are suitable for general use.

The following parameters will be referred to in the on-line catalogue of Mollificio Modenese:

  • DF = Wire Diameter (mm);
  • DE = spring’s External Diameter (mm);
  • LL = spring’s Free Length (mm);
  • N = Number of active coils;
  • Pmax = load that compresses the spring;
  • K = elastic constant of the spring, the relationship between the load applied
    and the corresponding deformation. K = P / DL where:

    • K = elastic constant, in Kg / mm;
    • P = load, in Kg;
    • DL = length variation, in mm;

If you know the load to be applied to the spring (P) and you want to know the shortening the spring goes through (A), use the following formula: A = P / K.
If, on the other hand, you know the shortening the spring goes through (A) and you want to define the load P to be applied to the spring to achieve such shortening, use the following formula: P = K x A.

Tension springs

The tension springs in Mollificio Modenese’s catalogue are made with round spring steel wire UNI EN 10270-1 SM or SH. They are suitable for general use They are suitable for general use.

If you know the load to be applied to the spring (P) and you want to know the elongation undergone by the spring (A), use the formula: A = (P - Pi) / K. If you know the elongation undergone by the spring (A) and you want to determine the load P to be applied to achieve this elongation, use the formula: P = Pi + (K x A).

 

For tension springs, it is also necessary to define the shape of the loops. The tension springs in the catalogue have the English loop.
